Coon Rapids Utility Operations
The Utilities Division operates the municipal water and sanitary sewer systems. City water is provided through an extensive system of wells, water towers, reservoirs, pumping facilities and two iron/manganese removal treatment plants to ensure the water in the Coon Rapids is safe. Waste water flows through pipes under the streets which convey it to a metropolitan treatment plant.
The Utilities Division maintains 24 groundwater wells which pump more than 3 billion gallons of water annually. Over 31,000 customers are served by 290.7 miles of water main, two water treatment plants, three elevated storage tanks, and two ground storage reservoirs. A total of 263 miles of sewer main carries wastewater from homes and businesses to 16 sanitary sewer lift stations located throughout the City. Funding for utility operations comes from fees charged to users.
