The Coon Rapids Police Department strives to work with residents to make our community one of the safest in the country. The men and women at the Coon Rapids Police Department take pride in the service provided to both residents and visitors to our city.
The Coon Rapids Police Department is a 24-hour law enforcement agency, handling over 38,000 calls for service each year. The Department is authorized 64 sworn MN P.O.S.T. licensed police officers, 8 full-time support staff, 5 part-time Community Service Officers and 20 volunteer Reserve Officers. The Department has a Police Chief, 3 Captains, 7 Sergeants, and 7 Detectives -- three of which serve as School Liaison Officers in the High School and both Middle Schools. Currently the department has one Canine Officer, four D.A.R.E. Officers and three officers assigned to the Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS) unit who work with rental housing communities and businesses in the city. Two officers are also assigned to the Anoka-Hennepin Narcotics and Violent Crime Task Force.
