New Program - Home for Generations II

Home Remodeling Tour - May 17

The City of Coon Rapids is pleased to announce a new incentive program for home remodeling projects.  Home for Generations II will provide financial incentives to homeowners who take on large remodeling projects at their homes.  The financial incentives include a grant up to $5,000 and a rebate on 50% of your building permit fees.

To be eligible, your project must be valued at $35,000 or higher and must add living space or be a major remodel to your home.

Projects that would qualify include:

  • building an addition to your home
  • building a sun room
  • finishing previously unfinished space in the basement or attic
  • constructing a covered front porch
  • converting a garage into livable space
  • major kitchen, bathroom or basement remodels
  • adding a new bathroom
  • moving walls of existing rooms

Eligible homes must be owner-occupied and homesteaded and be at least 20 years old.  There are no income limits for this program.

This program also requires that you sit down with an architect or designer to discuss and help plan your remodeling ideas.  This service will be greatly discounted thanks to the Coon Rapids Mortgage Assistance Foundation.

Once you finalize your remodeling plans, collect bids from contractors, select your desired contractor, and have your projects completed, 50% of the value of your building permits will be given back to you as a rebate.

You can also receive a separate grant up to $5,000 based upon the type of projects you complete at your home.  If the project includes two or more exterior upgrades, you could receive a grant up to 10% of the project cost (not to exceed $5,000).

Eligible exterior updates include: altering the roofline on the front of your home, constructing columns at your front door, building a covered front porch, adding shakes, brick or stone on the front of your home, replacing and upgrading your front door and/or garage door if it faces the street, landscaping (landscape design assistance required), or other elements as approved.

If your project does not involve exterior upgrades, it would be eligible for a grant up to 5% of the project cost (not to exceed $2,500).
