Mercy Hospital is expanding its building and parking capacity at its current location. he three-year project will enhance critical care and surgical services at the facility. At the same time, renovations will also take place at the Unity Hospital campus, located in Fridley. Mental health and addiction services will move from Mercy Hospital to the Unity campus as part of the enhancement plans. Mercy and Unity Hospitals, owned by Allina Health, are working to enhance patient care by operating as a single system on two campuses. The renovation work at Unity Hospital is expected to be complete by early 2017, while the work at Mercy Hospital will be complete by late 2018.
Allina Health combined its obstetrical services from Mercy and Unity Hospitals into one, all-inclusive program at the Mother Baby Center at Mercy Hospital, which opened July 27, 2015. The new facility is a partnership between Allina Health and Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota.
RMS Company to Expand Facility and Add Jobs
RMS Company, which currently has 711 employees in Coon Rapids and is the city's largest private employer, is expanding. A subsidiary of Cretex Companies, Inc., based in Elk River, RMS Company manufactures machined and molded components used in the medical device and aerospace industries. Located at 8600 Evergreen Boulevard since 1992, RMS completed expansions in 1998, 2006, and 2011.
The proposed expansion project involves construction of a 60,000 square foot addition of manufacturing space to its 215,000 square foot Evergreen Boulevard location. The company plans to create at least 100 new jobs within two years of completing the project. RMS Company is an international supplier and contract manufacturer to top medical device manufacturers.

Coon Rapids has a relatively high concentration of residents employed in the manufacturing sector, with over 5,700 Coon Rapids residents employed in manufacturing. In order to facilitate the project, the City helped RMS Company secure a $700,000 forgivable loan from the Minnesota Investment Fund (MIF).
