Park Bond News

Voters in Coon Rapids approved a Park Bond on November 5, 2013 in the amount of $17.4 million. The money is being used to renovate and reconstruct several of the city's parks.

Cornerstone Parks to be Improved:

  • Crooked Lake Park - 13180 Crooked Lake Boulevard
  • Pheasant Ridge Park - 11845 Pheasant Ridge Drive (Renovation complete!)
  • Riverview Park - 2420 105th Ave. (Renovation Complete!)
  • Lions Coon Creek Park - 1664 119th Ave.

Neighborhood Parks to be Improved:

  • Woodcrest Park - 901 103rd Ave. (Renovation complete in fall 2016!)
  • Delta Park - 11151 Yukon St. (Renovation complete!)
  • Mason Park - 9600 Holly Circle (Renovation complete!)
  • Riverwind Park - 11747 Crocus St.

Sand Creek Athletic Complex: (Opening in spring 2017!)

  • New playgrounds
  • New softball, baseball, football and lacrosse fields
  • Re-arranged parking
  • New concession building
  • Hockey rink with open skate areas

Other Improvements:

  • Build a new park named Boulevard Park located near the Coon Rapids Ice Center which will become a community gathering place and may include playground equipment, splash pad and other features.

  • Renovate restrooms at the Coon Rapids Soccer Complex
  • Complete sidewalk gaps and renovate other neighborhood parks using Parks Improvement Fund dollars 
  • Complete several trail connections including Coon Creek Regional Trail, Sand Creek Linkage Trail, 85th Avenue Trail connection to Kennedy Park, Mississippi Regional Trail, Middle Linkage Trail, Northern Linkage Trail and other select gaps  (Read about trail improvements in menu at left.)

Construction of the parks listed above is occurring over a 6 to 8 year period, starting in 2015. The work is being done in a phased approach to avoid having major portions of the City's parks system torn up and reconstructed at the same time.
