Sand Creek Athletic Complex: (Renovation complete!)
This park is now open as of April 2017!
Construction got underway in August on the city’s first splash pad! As part of a brand new park being built on the grounds of the Coon Rapids Ice Center, located at 11000 Crooked Lake Blvd., this park is an exciting new feature for this community gathering place on the south side of the city. Water sprayers and fountains of all types will be available for children to play with in the summer of 2018.
Park equipment is also being installed, which includes slides, swings and climbing equipment designed for children of all ages. New landscaping and walking trails will complete the project. Park construction will be completed later this year, but the splash pad won’t open until 2018 due to weather conditions.
This area along Coon Rapids Boulevard has become a community gathering place as it is also the location for the Coon Rapids 4th of July Celebration, Farmers Market events in the summer and public skating and other events at the Coon Rapids Ice Center.
The park project is possible thanks to funding from the Park Bond approved by voters in 2013.
Construction of the parks listed above is occurring over a 6 to 8 year period, starting in 2015. The work is being done in a phased approach to avoid having major portions of the City's parks system torn up and reconstructed at the same time.
