Flushing & Inspecting Hydrants
Every spring and summer the City’s utility crews begin flushing more than 800 fire hydrants in the city.
The process is part of a routine maintenance program necessary to maintain the water system and remove sediment from the lines. This allows us to continue to deliver the highest quality water possible to our residents. If crews are working in your neighborhood, you may experience some water discoloration, but this does not affect the safety of the water. It’s best to avoid doing laundry until the discoloration has disappeared.
